World Renown Humanitarian Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE to Keynote YWCA Silicon Valley 23rd Annual Luncheon

Considered to be the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees, Dr. Jane Goodall brings her message of compassion, philanthropy and commitment to creating a better world to this year’s Silicon Valley YWCA Annual Luncheon. Goodall is best known for her 45-year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues. Goodall has received many honors for her environmental and humanitarian work. In April 2002, Secretary-General Kofi Annan named Goodall a United Nations Messenger of Peace. The “YW” is pleased to announce that Goodall will share her message of peace and concern for our communities: Thursday, October 10th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Men in Silicon Valley "Walk a Mile" in High Heels to Raise Sexual Assault Awareness

What greater show of compassion is there than walking a mile in the shoes of another? That’s an example what men will be doing in downtown San Jose to raise awareness in support of the YWCA Silicon Valley Rape Crisis Center. 1 out of every 6 American women and 1 out of every 33 American men has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in his lifetime. The YWCA Silicon Valley helps more than 10,000 survivors of sexual violence each year. From counseling to advocacy the YW services provides survivors and their families through the devastating ordeal.

Forty-one outstanding executive women from Silicon Valley will be honored by the YWCA Silicon Valley, May 10, 2012 at the 28th Annual Tribute to Women (TWIN) Awards Program at the San Jose Fairmont. The YWCA Silicon Valley’s TWIN Awards Program honors not only women who demonstrate excellence in executive-level positions, but also the companies that employ these women. “I continue to be amazed at the extraordinary contributions and impact that these executive women have in their organizations and thus in our community. The talent of women executives is second to none. We are privileged to honor these 41 inspirational women and to have so many supportive sponsors investing in the YWCA.” said Dr. Keri McLain, Chief Executive Officer of the YWCA Silicon Valley.

Dee Dee Myers to Speak at the YWCA Silicon Valley’s 21st Annual Luncheon

The YWCA Silicon Valley will host its YWCA Silicon Valley 21st Annual Luncheon event on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The event serves as a major fundraiser with proceeds going to support the programs and services of the YWCA Silicon Valley. Dee Dee Myers, former press secretary to President Bill Clinton and New York Times best-selling author of Why Women Should Rule the World, will be the keynote speaker at the event. “We are delighted to have Ms. Myers speak at this year’s luncheon,” said Keri Procunier McLain, CEO of the YWCA Silicon Valley. “Our audience of business and community leaders will be fascinated by her perspectives on women’s issues and experiences as the first female White House press secretary.”
