One of the leading providers of data recovery services, launches newest RAID data recovery division.
Temple, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/23/2013 -- ACS Data Recovery announced the launch of a new division dedicated strictly to the recovery of Hitachi SMS devices. As anyone in the IT industry knows, RAID arrays are some of the most complex data storage devices within any network. When these go down it is often left to professional data recovery companies to get the data recovered.
Greg Duffield, President of ACS Data Recovery, explained the reasoning behind developing a specialized division that focuses solely on one type of RAID device. "We have always been very good when it comes to RAID data recovery. Not to brag, but we have an exceptional track record over the last 10 years of recovering data from some of the most complicated RAID arrays imaginable. In 2012 we were getting more and more calls from organizations that had been hit by failures in these Hitachi SMS. It's not that there is anything particularly bad about them, it's just that they are extraordinarily difficult to recover the data from. Many of the IT departments had followed the recommended protocols, but some of these had 4 or more drives that dropped out of the array and there was simply nothing they could do."
What started out to be routine data recovery work, ended up being much more complicated than even Duffield or his staff of technicians realized. The layout of the data on the hard drives, and the bit arrangement of each drive was completely different and unique. This led to the creation of specialized software to help with not only getting the drives imaged properly but also reconstructing the data in a usable format.
"We realized immediately when we first started working on these a couple years ago that they were very unique", Duffield continued. "Hitachi used a unique method for writing data to the drives, and in addition to that, even though it was a RAID 6 configuration, the arrangement was much different. This meant we had to spend weeks just dissecting how the data was striped across each drive, and then figure out a way to pull usable data."
Once the determination was made, it was then a matter of creating customized software to handle the array parameters. Duffield explained, "we worked with another data recovery company who we partner with from time to time on complicated projects, and they just have an absolute genius software engineer. We sent them the devices so they could dissect them and drill down the needs that would have to be met with the software."
This partnership proved to be successful for ACS Data Recovery. As the first Hitachi device was completing the rebuild, the data started to regenerate itself perfectly, maintaining the original file and folder structure that it had before the crash occurred. "It was a complete success." Duffield stated. "We could not have been happier with the results, and I think the only person more excited than our team was the customer. So after that initial success we completed a few more of those recoveries, and now we are still continuing to get calls. We felt it was time to just dedicate a portion of our staff to these Hitachi devices. So far we've been tremendously successful with the Hitachi SMS devices, and we hoping to help others who might need their critical data recovered from them.
