Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/14/2019 -- Since 1968, the Special Olympics has provided athletes with intellectual and physical disabilities with all-year sports training and healthy athletic competition. Just 20 years after the founding of this organization, the Cayman Islands joined in, competing in six events: Aquatics, Bocce, Athletic, Football, Basketball, and Open-Water Swimming. The Cayman Islands first participated in the 1991 Special Olympics World Games held in Minnesota, USA, and they have most recently competed in the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi, UAE, this past spring.
