Artist Leo Sewell to Present at Gladwyne Montessori April 26th

Gladwyne, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/29/2019 -- This Friday, April 26th, Gladwyne Montessori will be proud to host the renowned artist Leo Sewell to provide a presentation to Gladwyne students.

A Philadelphia resident since 1974, Sewell is what is often called a found object artist, creating sculptures out of recognizable personal objects that are no longer useful to their previous owner. Featuring many naturalistic themes such as animals, Sewell began developing his technique as a child, collecting and tinkering with objects from the woods and nearby naval-community dumps. Today, his art is featured in exhibits around the world, having produced 4,000 works over the past 50 years.

As a private elementary school near Wayne, PA, Gladwyne Montessori believes that Sewell's art has much to contribute to the world of Montessori education as well. With personal exploration and curiosity going to the heart of his work, Mr. Sewell will be showing Gladwyne students how he sculpts and produces his art while also inviting them to participate themselves. On April 1st, students began collecting unused objects in the main lobby in preparation for the event, culling together items such as belt buckles, license plates, wooden toys, rulers, and even broken cameras for Mr. Sewell's demonstration.

Mr. Sewell's artistic passion also has much in common with the spirit of Makerspace. As a space for exploring and promoting artistic creativity, problem-solving, and experimenting with technologies of every kind, children at Gladwyne have much to learn from an artist who built his life's work simply by experimenting with the seemingly plain objects that fill our everyday lives.

To learn more about the presentation, parents and community members are encouraged to reach out to Gladwyne Montessori, a private elementary school near Ardmore, PA, today by visiting https://www.gladwyne.org/.
