Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/01/2013 -- Everyone has secrets; some are easier to hide than others. Making a fascinating theme for fiction, author Marisa Lopez is delighted to announce her upcoming novel, ‘Awakening’.

The novel’s story, while primarily fictional, calls on many facets of the real world and follows one young woman as she lives through a journey of many faces, many surprises and many opportunities to change the course of her life forever.

Synopsis:

Everyone holds a secret. Some are personal and possibly, devastating to a point of memory loss. I’m sure you’ve asked yourself, “Why is did this happen to me?” Everyone meets a person that drags them into, what you’d call a dark circle. This could be your past. Or is it your present? Everyone meets a person or people who takes them out of that same dark circle and places them in unexpected, yet sublime light. Are you that person?

AWAKENING is a fiction novel about Jocelyn Rodriguez. An independent and out spoken young lady who’s known to have a hard character ready to rip someone apart with words and fight. According to her, life was normal until college. She meets a young man by the name Brad J. Williams, Jr. Though at first she doesn't remember who he is, he makes sure that their reencounter brings back what she'd deleted out of pain and personal unforgiving. By use of words and written letters he continues to stalk her.

During her unexpected journey she meets several people who pretend to be her friends, but come against in favor to Brad. She also connects with Drew, Red and Jase, three lifelong friends who she calls her Soul Brothers. She discovers new friends in the physical and spiritual realm, whom will walk with her and guide her. Throughout this battle she meets Antoni Vega, the one person willing to express admiration and love for someone as unique as she.

Will she replace hate with love? Is she able to forgive herself and others of a pain filled past? All this may cause her to either lose or gain, the question is who or what?

As the author explains, her novel examines numerous issues that shape modern society.

“Throughout the story you'll find examples bullying and stalking, physical and verbal abuse. This brings up another subject that I find interesting, secrets,” says Lopez.

Continuing, “People of all ages tend to shut down because they refuse to speak of the specific subject that has occurred in their life. It may be past or present, but they refuse to speak. Sometimes it has to do with forgiveness, pride or shame. All of these play out in my story.”

As Lopez explains, faith also plays a big part in her characters’ lives.

“The story portrays a young lady that has decided to live a life of abstinence; something that is rare but is still found in all ages. Many are Christian or have some kind of religious background, but there are a few that decide to live this way out of personal choices or past experiences,” she adds.

Fusing an enthralling fictional adventure with an indirect commentary on many societal occurrences, ‘Awakening’ is a book to keep a close eye on.

The novel is due for release soon. To discuss publishing or purchase options, please contact the author.

About the Author: Marisa Lopez
My name is Marisa Lopez. I am a wife and a mother of three boys and together we live in Philadelphia, PA.

I was born and raised in the north side of Philadelphia, which I call the ditch. Reason for the nickname is because every other corner was owned by a drug dealer and violence was always associated. If you didn’t have certain features or someone around the way didn’t know who you were, then questions and looks followed your every step.

I began writing poetry during junior high and fell in love with it. In high school, my English teacher would tell us to write in our journals and that gave my imagination flight. I continue writing poetry having to do with various aspects in my life, personal opinions, love and relationships.

One day in August of 2012 I wasn’t feeling well and decided to stay home from work. As I sat on my bed, I decided to type something on my laptop. At that precise moment I didn’t know what, so I began typing what I thought was going to be another poem. The poem, for some reason, became what I thought was going to be a short story. The short story transformed into chapters. What I began in August was completed by the end of November.
