Biodegradable Plastic News: Oxo-Degradables Are out Biodegradable Plastic Is In

Biodegradable plastic additives enhance the ability of plastic products to biodegrade in environments with or without light, Oxo-Biodegradable and Oxo-Degradable products require light to break down which limits the ability of some disposal methods.

Portland, OR -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/16/2013 -- Biodegradable plastic additives and Oxo-Degradable or Oxo-Biodegradable additives have fundamental differences in technology. Oxo-Degradable products require UV rays to begin the decomposition process of the plastic product. Oxo-degradable technologies have little use in normal disposal methods. These products which are made to reduce the plastic products to dust or smaller polymer chains are useful only in litter environments that are susceptible to UV exposure over a period of time. Most of these technologies use UV inhibitors to reduce the risk of decomposition in normal environments such as the warehouse or store shelves. These challenges with Oxo-Degradable products and Oxo-Biodegradable products leave unanswered questions for consumers and for manufacturers. Why am I paying for something that only works a small percentage of the time? This was the reason that BioSphere biodegradable plastic additive was born.

BioSphere biodegradable plastic was designed to withstand the normal manufacturing and storage for plastic products without the worry of decomposition on the shelf. The Additive was designed for normal disposal methods such as a landfill with the ability to be broken down by microorganisms even without the need for UV rays like oxo-degradable technologies. These benefits allow BioSphere to be used in long lasting applications or applications that are very thin, but require physical properties to be maintained for their short usage times. Technologies such as Oxo-Degradable and Oxo-Biodegradable require a closed environment with little to no UV ray exposure prior to their use, once used the technology requires that the product be left out in the open prior to disposal in landfills so the polymer chain may be broken down into smaller pieces.

BioSphere understood the consumer and manufacturers request to overcome the hurdles of competing technologies in the market and developed their revolutionary BioSphere biodegradable plastic additive to be used in all major resin types without the need for UV exposure prior to disposal methods to be consumed by microorganisms.
