A sign of technological effects to replace traditional highway signs
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/07/2012 -- The down town mall of Boca Raton wants to adopt the latest light-emitting diode (LED) messaging sign board on the Federal Highway by replacing its old traditional sign which will have lighting characteristic and messaging controlled by computers instead of the old fashioned manual methods.
However, according to downtown manager Ruby Childers, it requires changes in the downtown sign regulations of 1966 which does not have any clause allowing such changes.
The general manager of Boca Raton’s Mazner Park, Mr. Chris Molho, said that the proposal was presented with assurance that the LED sign will not display anything disapproving.
Molho stated, according to Boston.com,
“The majority of the images on the screen would be text. We understand that no sale/tenant information would be allowed.”
He further added that the city council will approve the images and will have the final say of which ones are to be displayed and which one are not.
Constance Scott, a member of the city council said that the changeable rules that cater the sign board regulations were formed in 1966. She also supported the idea that things have changed the scenario in the field of technology.
However, there will be certain limitations in the changing of images on the LED sign.
Molho added, “The changing of the images would be relegated to once every eight hours, unless there is an emergency.”
There are certain reservations by the council members. One of them Anthony Majhess, stated that it will be a start to convert the atmosphere like a mini-Las Vegas.
He added that, “The LED is incredible bright — this could have ... the same effect as neon.My concern would be if we have four or five of these signs in one block. "We're not going to drive down the street and look like a mini Las Vegas.”
