It is speculated that Apple might be coming out with budget friendly phones to compete in the market. How well will it go with the current app development pattern? Read more.
Hicksville, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/29/2013 -- Competition is an inherent variable of business and Apple is experiencing it now at its fullest. A stiff competition from android device manufacturers shook the foundations of the iPhone and is said to have made Apple contemplate a design overhaul for iPhone. If rumors are to be believed, the company might also launch multiple models for the iPhone and target different segments. For mobile app development companies specialized in iPhone app development, differing hardware configuration for the iPhone has generated mixed responses. On one hand where the continuity of iPhone is necessary for developer community, Apple cannot afford to lose out to the cut throat competition by android device makers at the same time.
Varshal Patel of Openxcell Technolabs says "iPhone app development is highly standardized at this moment. Unlike android, we can keep the performance issues at the back and just focus on building a great app. However with diversification, I doubt a comparable performance in future". According to a survey conducted last year by Appcelerometer and IDC, it is suggested that 83% of the developers have shown interest in iPhone app development while android received a 66% approval from mobile app developers. The major reason cited by developers is the stability and performance of the iOS, which is optimized for a single model of iPhone every year. However, developers also praise the compatibility and comparable performance of apps across the multiple versions of iOS, something that android sometimes fails to deliver. With the segmentation of iPhone however, the likability factor of the device might go down for developers which in turn can degrade the app experience for users as well.
One thing Apple is still blessed with, is their long development cycle of iOS. Pioneering the mobile OS with an addictive experience, Apple has made its fortunes and has mastered software development for its devices. It will not be very difficult for apple to tone down its current version of operating systems and create lighter versions of its mobile OS. If Apple succeeds in keeping the performance unaltered across its devices it will be able to keep their customers happy while motivating the Mobile App Development community alongside and continue to be their preference. To effectively segment the market one can also think of segregating apps with respect to the hardware capabilities of the device. While mid range devices might have free apps with in app advertisements, higher end devices will mostly have more paid apps with prioritized updates.
Apple has built a fortress of trust based on its high end products due to which it might able to pull a critical mass of users towards its product line of iPhones. However, it will be interesting to see how Cook creates the equilibrium between budget driven Apple products and the premium brand perception of the company that’s making it sell.
