Burlington, VT -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/09/2013 -- CashAdvance.com recently served the people of Vermont by acting as a sponsor for “The Walk For Awareness” in Burlington, an event to raise awareness and funds for the Center for Donation and Transplant, which assists organ donors and their families.
The 5k walk was put on by Donate Life Vermont, whose mission is to “bring awareness and education to the Vermont communities about the importance and need for organ and tissue donors while providing the tools to take action.” They are a non-profit organization that seeks to increase organ and tissue donor registrants in the state.
Every ten minutes, a new person is added to the organ donor waiting list, and there are currently over 117,000 people in America waiting for a transplant. An average of 18 people die each day because they were unable to receive an organ donation. These are harrowing statistics, which is why events such as Donate Life Vermont’s Walk for Awareness are so important.
The Walk For Awareness took place on April 27th, 2013. CashAdvance.com was joined as a sponsor by Wings Over Burlington, a local restaurant, as well as companies such as Ben & Jerry’s which sponsored the raffle.
The walk began outside the Gucciardi Recreation and Fitness building, where there was a brief kids dash, with the actual walk beginning at 9am. There were about 160 people in attendance at the event, including donor families who made the decision to donate on behalf of a loved one, recipients of life saving organs, patients waiting to receive a transplant, and family and friends of the community. Over $3,000 was raised for the Center for Donation and Transplant.
A spokesperson for Cash Advance explained that they were very excited to be part of the event. “Becoming an organ donor is a brave and admirable thing to do. Organ donors support their communities by helping the people who need help most, perfect strangers who they have probably never met. It’s important that we support organ donors, and that we support events like The Walk For Awareness. Cash Advance is proud to have helped make this event possible. We were very excited to help such an incredible organization.”
