Campbell, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/12/2013 -- CCBA stands for the Connecticut Cannabis Business Alliance. The group is sponsoring the Medical Cannabis discussion event in Hartford. Tickets for the event are $20.00 for non-members and all proceeds go to supporting the mission of the group which is a Connecticut based professional trade association comprised of industry leaders, patient advocates and service providers who believe that education, industry standards and best practices are paramount to the successful implementation of the medical cannabis industry in Connecticut.
Medical cannabis refers to the marijuana parts of the herb used as a physician-recommended form of medicine or herbal therapy. Studies have shown cannabis has multiple well-documented beneficial effects. Some of these are:
- The amelioration of nausea and vomiting
- Stimulation of hunger in chemotherapy and AIDS patients
- Lowered intraocular eye pressure (shown to be effective for treating glaucoma)
- Effective response to gastrointestinal illnesses
While utilizing cannabis for recreational purposes is illegal in the states, many are beginning to entertain varying levels of decriminalization for medical usage. Eileen Konieczny, the Executive Director of the Connecticut CBA, recently responded to the question: If only one thing is achieved by Tuesday night’s event, what do you want that to be? Eileen stated, "The one thing that I would like to see come out of our event on Tuesday would be that people see that medical cannabis is something to be embraced by Connecticut. Between the work being done by the DCP and our legislators regarding our regulations and the businessmen and women who are coming out in support of this emerging industry, we would love to see our membership grow to accurately portray the interest and opportunity we believe is possible."
The event will be hosted March 12, 2013 at the Wood n Tap which is located at 99 Sisson Avenue, in Hartford. Light food and a cash bar will be available at the welcome which begins at 6:00 PM. At 6:15 a panel discussion and Q & A regarding what Medical Cannabis can look like in Connecticut will ensue, following with 7:30pm networking amongst attendees, and the Connecticut Cannabis Business Alliance.
