The Financial Times reported that UK physicians have seen a 200% increase in the number men seeking Botox treatments for wrinkles. Dr. Simon Ourian of Epione Medical Corporation says that he’s seen similar increases at his Beverly Hills aesthetic practice.
Beverly Hills, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/14/2014 -- According to an April 4, 2014 Financial Times article titled “Botox Treatments for Men Grow in Popularity,” physicians in the United Kingdom have reported a 200% increase since 2011 in the number of male patients seeking aesthetic treatments for wrinkles. Some doctors in the UK stated that they perform more than 20 percent of their Botox treatments on males. Botox injections can create a youthful look in the patient by addressing wrinkles associated with aging.
“There’s no doubt that more men than ever are coming in to our clinic for aesthetic treatments,” says Dr. Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Medical Corporation.
Divorce is said to be a leading contributor to the increase as more men are re-entering the dating world. To better their chances they are opting for Botox treatments to improve their mood and boost their self-esteem and confidence. Wives also play a role in the growing popularity of men getting Botox. A number of women accompany their husbands when they go for treatments and will comment on the way they want their men to look.
Nicknamed "bloke-tox" or "bro-tox," the surge has been attributed to work pressure as well. In the corporate world, looks are important both for getting the job and keeping it. In order to look their best and appear approachable, men want to eliminate their furrowed brows, which can be misinterpreted as a sign of anger or tension. With correct injections of fillers and Botox, these men feel, may look and perform better on the job.
Some may wonder why Botox treatments can seem drastic on some men. This is because some doctors inject Botox for men and women in the same manner, giving men a feminine appearance. The clear anatomical distinctions between both genders are not taken into consideration. A major issue lies in the fact that women have naturally arched eyebrows but men have horizontal eyebrows. Having Botox injections under the eyes will feminize the look of a man.
“In my opinion a ‘perfect’ look does not work on men, they need some furrows and lines to remain looking manly and rugged,” says Dr. Ourian. “I think the best way to use Botox on the faces of men is for softening the deep creases between the brows that make men look mean or sad.”
