Energy costs have recently reached historic highs, as growing domestic and global energy prices have forced families to seek innovation to help mitigate their energy-related costs. In the city of Richmond, Virginia, the local government has taken great strides in helping to make Richmond more sustainable, by increasing efficiency and effectiveness in the city government. Likewise, private citizens are seeking energy efficiency in their own lives, especially in their homes. A popular and cost- effective energy-saving technique has been to replace old windows, with new energy-efficient windows. Richmond window companies, like River City Window and Door, have dedicated staffs focused on helping to improve energy-efficiency through replacement vinyl windows.

Reading an article on a pertinent business issue frequently generates a series of questions, or areas for debate. Therefore, with this in mind we built a business news and advice site, complete with a discussion forum. (UK business forums)

The value of the global earthmoving equipment increased at a CAGR of 1.13% during the review period (2006-2010). Robust growth in the Asia-Pacific region has offset decline in the world's other two significant markets, North America and Europe, which recorded CARCs of -10.69% and -8.28% over the review period. The global economic crisis was one of the main factors behind steep industry contraction. Loaders, the largest sector in the global earthmoving equipment market, achieved a CAGR of 2.28% during the review period, increasing their market share from 36.5% in 2006 to 38.2% in 2010. The excavators sector recorded the fastest growth rates with a CAGR of 2.43% and accounted for 35.6% of the earthmoving equipment market, an increase of 1.7 percentage points over 2006. Construction tractors, the smallest sector, recorded a CARC of -1.97% during the review period, observing a market share contraction of 29.6% in 2006 to 26.1% in 2010.

In terms of gross written premiums, the life insurance segment was the largest in the Hong Kong insurance industry during the review period (2007-2011) and accounted for a share of 87.8% of the total insurance industry written premiums in 2011. The segment's growth was driven by a rising consumer awareness regarding life insurance coverage, favorable government regulations, and increasing product innovations and marketing campaigns. However, consumers have been reluctant to invest in unit-linked products as such cover is highly exposed to market conditions, resulting in a decline in demand. The decline in unit-linked plans has been offset by the positive growth of traditional products such as whole-life, endowment and term-life during the review period.

The packaging industry in Thailand registered strong growth during the review period growing with a CAGR of 8.21%, supported by both growing food exports and the entry of major industry competitors into the domestic market. The food and beverages sector remains the key growth driver of the domestic packaging industry and is supported by export demand and easy access to raw materials. Over the forecast period, the industry is expected to grow at a CAGR 6.41% to reach a value of US$11.1 billion in 2016. The estimated growth rate for the industry over the forecast period is significantly lower than the growth rate achieved in the review period. The slow growth in the demand for packaging products is expected to reduce revenue growth, and hence the financial performance, of Thai packaging companies.

The Colombian non-life insurance segment demonstrated strong growth during the review period. This was largely generated from the impressive growth of the motor insurance category, which benefited from the country's rising automobile sales and compulsory third-party liability motor insurance. The Colombian government is planning to triple its current investment on infrastructure by 2014. This investment will be spent on developing roads, buildings, energy and transportation, and will provide opportunities for commercial property and motor insurance providers to capitalize on over the forecast period.

During 2008-2009, the global financial crisis led to many independent lenders withdrawing from the capital market due to difficulties with regards to raising funds. The Australian construction industry faced the specific challenge of increasing costs when obtaining debt financing. Consequently, the industry's growth rate declined in 2009 compared with 2008. However, the announcement of stimulus packages in the 2009-2010 budget had a positive impact on many areas of the economy. Notably, the schools building package provided support to the institutional construction market during a time when obtaining finance was problematic. The Australian government is anticipated to spend a significant sum on improving the education system over the next three-years under the Building Education Revolution (BER) scheme.

BMI View: We have revised down our production forecast for wheat and barley as dry weather conditions have reduced yields for the 2012/13 season. However, we expect the country to have a strong export capacity, thanks to high stocks and another good production balance. We reiterate our view for strong growth potential for the livestock sector in Kazakhstan thanks to ongoing government support as well as renewed private sector interest, as the recent US$108mn investment by Israeli technology provider, MAD Corporation, to build five large poultry farms in the north of the country shows.
