Earth Day Recycling Event at Rapid Refill

Tampa, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/22/2013 -- As part of its 2013 Earth Day celebration, Rapid Refill Ink will join forces with Urban E Recycling to present “Electronics for a Cause.” The weeklong event runs from April 22 – 27, 2013 and offers free recycling of consumer electronics. All recycling proceeds will benefit Meals on Wheels of Tampa.

Used office and household electronics can be dropped off at Rapid Refill Ink, 10416 N. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Large donation items, such as big screen TVs, can call Rapid Refill Ink to arrange a pick-up at (813) 514-0680.

The following items will be accepted for recycling: computers (desktop and laptop), servers, hard drives, circuit boards, UPS battery backups, monitors, printers, copiers, DVD players, VCRs, modems, cable boxes, satellite receivers, routers, lead acid non-spillable batteries, lithium ion batteries, cell phones, telephones, phone system hardware, insulated cable, all metals associated with electronics, video game systems and ink and toner cartridges.

Urban E Recycling will wipe hard drives off-site and provide a data destruction certificate. The $5 fee will be donated to Meals on Wheels of Tampa. On-site, secure document shredding for a discounted fee of .79 per pound is also available.

More than 85% of all electronic waste (E-waste) goes un-recycled, with millions of tons entering the waste stream every year. The average American household has at least 24 electronic products. E-waste can contain more than 1,000 components, many of which are toxic. Local ordinances require that electronics be disposed of in a proper manner, not placed in with normal household or office trash.
