Popular site releases same-day delivery app
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/15/2012 -- On the heels of unveiling its new logo last month, Ebay will soon debut a redesigned website and showed off a new app that will let users order and receive items on the same day.
The popular shopping site, which has been focusing more on instant purchases than auctions, said it would unwrap the new design in a few weeks. It will offer a cleaner and more modern look, said a spokesperson.
Screenshots of the new site look similar to Pinterest, with items for sale displayed in multiple columns and in images of various sizes.
Site changes will not be all cosmetic, however. "Search results and recommendations are no longer enough," said Ebay President Devin Wenig. "Consumers want insight. And they want personal, curated selection that is relevant to them, controlled by them."
Meanwhile, the shopping site announced Ebay Now, a mobile app that is available for download from iTunes.
Ebay Now, which is available for thousands of items, is a same-day delivery app. "Just find what you want, click “Bring It,” and an EBay Now shopping valet does the rest," the app description reads.
At first the service will only be available for San Francisco users. Other markets will be available soon, said a company spokesperson.
In joining the same-day delivery market, Ebay is competing with Amazon, which provides the service, and Wal-Mart, which is testing something similar.
