New South Wales, Australia -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/05/2018 -- The Supervising Scientist Branch (SSB) was established to ensure the protection of the Alligator Rivers Region of the Northern Territory from the impacts of uranium mining and does so by undertaking research and developing standards and practices for environmental protection. The Supervising Scientist Branch is part of the Department of the Environment and Energy's Heritage Reef and Marine Division.

The SSB manages one of Australia's most extensive historical environmental monitoring data sets, dating back over 40 years, with ongoing research and monitoring continuing to expand this data set.

SSB previously held a single ESdat Data Management Desktop licence for the management of a subset of data but saw the potential for a broader implementation of ESdat.

The objectives of the SSB procuring ESdat included (a) replacing current data storage and management processes, which predominantly comprises data stored within and reported from spreadsheets and (b) enabling data contained within to be interrogated, analysed and reported by the Supervising Scientist Branch groups to meet various business requirements

The ESdat solution adopted by SSB comprises ESdat Server, which is cloud hosted (a first for DOEE), ESdat Server Web Interface, and ESdat Desktop.

This ESdat solution provides many benefits including: (a) Centralised data storage, removing concerns about data versions or location, (b) Flexible data importing and validation tools, and (c) Powerful querying and reporting capabilities.
