Examining Jeffrey Greene Studio's Use of Black Walnut Wood

Doylestown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/12/2019 -- When examining Jeffrey Greene Design Studio's list of works, keen-eyed observers may notice a trend when it comes to the type of wood Jeffrey Greene uses: Black Walnut. Although his designs are customizable to virtually any hardwood clients may request, Black Walnut is currently among the most popular.

Black Walnut trees (genus Juglans) grow throughout the United States, including the area of Pennsylvania where Greene's studio is located. It also grows internationally in places such as South America and Indonesia, but Greene refrains from using imported Black Walnut because it does not dry as well as North American Black Walnut. When wood doesn't dry properly, it will absorb uneven levels of humidity, causing the wood to shrink, crack, and warp.

In addition to avoiding these problems, Black Walnut is strong for a wood of its weight and resistant to wear and tear. Plus, it's suitable for Greene's hand-rubbing finish as well as staining and polishing if the customer requests it, although most people prefer to keep the wood's natural beauty as is.

And then, of course, there's the wood's beautiful appearance. Black Walnut is straight-grained with variation from light to dark shading. If the wood is dried at a high temperature, it ruins this coloration. That's why Greene takes the time to dry the wood he plans on using for one year for every inch of thickness.

Greene's attention to detail inspires him to visit mills to pick out each board individually. This allows him to use not only the best type of wood, but also the best pieces of that wood. Greene transforms these pieces of wood into pieces of art. For more information, contact Jeffrey Greene Design Studio today by visiting https://jeffreygreene.com/.
