According to some experts, home air filters are in need of more frequent checking
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/28/2012 -- As fires continue to invade Eastern Washington, the quality of air continues to take a hit. Air conditioning experts are saying that homeowners in this area should definitely be changing out their air filters more often than usual. Stores are getting hit hard, and people are flooding in to get their filters.
It has been especially important for homeowners to change out their filters more than once a month at this point.
“People have been coming in like crazy to get air filters,” said Sherry Gronlund, a dispatcher for Arctic Refrigeration of Wenatchee, according to wenatcheeworld.com.
Frequent changing of the filters is crucial to keep it from becoming too clogged, which can lead to restriction of airflow. This, in turn, can lead to the system shutting down or damage to the compressor.
Car filters are also another type of filter that should be frequently changed when air quality becomes low.
Experts note that, since the fire broke out, auto shops aren’t servicing a larger group of customers than usual, but expects to see more filters selling eventually. Owner of NAPA Auto Parts in Wenatchee, Steve Workland, states that he doesn’t think that the smoke will clog and damage vehicle filters of those traveling low-mileage, but that he suggests delivery people and high-mileage drivers, who put on a lot of miles during these smoky conditions, get their filters checked more often.
