Nearly double the sit-down meals together when on vacation
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/18/2013 -- A new study is showing what many already recognized: vacations help create stronger family bonding. The notion has been something of a common-knowledge fact for some time, but now there are some numbers behind the notion of the family spending time together, and away from the daily routine and stress of life, can help make the unit happier.
According to the Disney Time Survey that took in over 1,000 parents of children (aged 7-15) the average family reported having 15 free weekends per year. That is around 20% (one-in-five) of the available weekends in a given year.
Not surprisingly, nearly three-quarters of parents who were polled stated that they would relish in some extra time with the family, and preferred 9 hours per week or more to spend in direct interaction with their kids or “quality time”.
“Almost one in two parents feel that out of all the time they spend with their children, only half of it, at most, could be classified as “quality time.”
According to the following infographic, vacationing is conducive to the more “relaxed, silly, affectionate, and exciting” interactions that a family can have.
One find within the survey showed that the average number of families that sit down for a meal nearly doubles whilst on a vacation or family outing.
While the information may not be shocking to many with children, the numbers are a bit daunting, especially considering that parents feel they want nine hours of quality time per week, meaning many are getting much less.
Smaller getaways can be just as conducive to family togetherness as larger trips. Weekend getaways and camping trips are said to be as useful as more elaborate getaways. Especially when it comes to very young children, simpler is better.
