Former Senate Staffers Turned Authors To Bring “Capitol Hell” To The Miami Book Fair International
Jayne Jones and Alicia Long cut their political teeth as idealistic young staffers on Capitol Hill working for US Senator Norm Coleman. That experience led the to write Capitol Hell, the newest book to give readers a glimpse into what life is really like inside of the beltway. Capitol Hell is a witty novel about the crazy co-workers, high maintenance politicians, and the over-the-top entourages that can only a political insider gets to see.
Capitol Hell released only six weeks ago and now the authors are hitting their own political campaign trail complete with bumper stickers, campaign materials, and tours to promote this one of a kind novel. They will campaign across America bringing laughter and a taste of humor from Capitol Hill!
On November 17, 2012, the authors will bring Capitol Hell to the Miami Book Fair International with an appearance and book signing.
The book signings have been selling out across America! Clearly, Capitol Hell is getting America’s vote this election season!
“Our time on the Hill coupled with countless other hilarious stories from congressional offices and staffers gave us an endless supply of crazy tales to write about,” said Jayne. “You find yourself and your friends in the midst of one unbelievable situation after another, a truly unreal reality.” “We know people are going to need a few laughs to make it through this Presidential election,” adds Alicia, “what better cure for the vitriolic mudslinging of campaign season than to escape into our uproarious little novel about what is likely happening behind closed doors.”
Jayne and Alicia met while working on the Coleman for Senate campaign and became fast friends after working for Senator Coleman in both his Saint Paul, MN and Washington, DC offices. They survived their time on the Hill by sharing the insanity of their DC experiences with other Capitol Hill staffers, who shared similar stories, and have now woven those “real-life” misadventures into the story of Allison Amundson and Janet Johannson. This off-beat and hilarious novel lets readers see behind the political persona and into the life of fictional Senator Anders McDermott III, a rising star in the US Senate who has his eye on the White House.
In the book, the second Allison sets foot in the prestigious Senate Russell Building, things begin to go awry. Her co-workers include a Chief of Staff who has little to no control over the office, a pompous primping and preening Press Secretary, and worst of all, the Senator himself who cares more about his rise to fame than the people of Minnesota and who brings along the baggage of his demanding family. As Allison struggles to juggle her new career, a growing love interest, and her declining bank account; she is comforted only by Janet, a fireplug who spends her time online dating and stalking a Senator of her own. Just as they begin to figure out how to survive on the Hill, Allison and Janet’s lives are turned upside down when Senator McDermott announces his bid for President of United States and they find themselves at the center of one of the craziest campaigns in history. From a disastrous campaign tour across Minnesota with the Senator’s demanding and irrational family, to late night scrambles getting the senator and his entourage ready for the Iowa Straw Poll and first National Debate, these girls slog from one hilarious and eye-opening assignment to another. Capitol Hell is truly one of those rare books that really gives a glimpse into what the life of a young political staffer is really like.
Bridget Siegel a fundraiser for the Kerry/Edwards presidential campaign and new author of Domestic Affairs: A Campaign Novel, states, "Capitol Hell is full of funny and insightful glimpses into life on the Hill and the campaign trail."
Karith Foster, a comedian, author and speaker, states, “Capitol Hell is a thoroughly entertaining look at the absurd real behind the scenes of politics. If the Devil Wears Prada was set in DC and at a Senators Office- this would be that story."
Capitol Hell has been kicked off with tours in Minnesota, Washington DC, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Texas, Florida and New York City. For Alicia and Jayne’s full bios, background and more about the book please visit www.capitolhellbook.com. You can also follow Capitol Hell on Twitter and Facebook.
