Foundem Proposes Remedies to Google for Its Anti-competitive Search Tradition Reports MPMarketingsolutions.com

Concord, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/14/2012 -- A UK based search engine named Foundem has proposed changes that should be adopted by Google to bring an end to its anti-competitive search practices.

Foundem claimed that Google’s rule to position a website is imposing unfairly on its competitors in the vertical search market. Therefore, they have published a 13-page document that proposes remedies which should be adopted by Google in order to get rid of anti-competitive practices.

Foundem claimed that Google reduces the rank of websites if they have little or no genuine content, if much of the content is copied, or if their main purpose is to redirect the user to another website. They stated that these activities are natural in “vertical search services” and they prohibited Google from being able to “deploy penalties that demote legitimate websites for illegitimate, anti-competitive reasons”.

They added that the vertical search services are topic exclusive and might be related to a specific sector. They also said that Google’s rationalization of punishing their vertical search competitors is not justified.

According to out-law.com, Foundem said “We are not suggesting that characteristics such as a lack of original content cannot be used as part of a broader analysis – one signal which, when combined with other signals, can be interpreted collectively as a sign of low quality or spam. But we are suggesting that these characteristics, which are inherent to all vertical search services (including Google’s own), cannot on their own be used to justify the systematic demotion of Google’s competitors."

Foundem is one of those search engines that have registered their complaints to the European Commission over suspected anti-competitive practices. In addition, they have now provided a rough sketch of remedial measures to Google to bring an end to their anti-competitive practices.
