Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/03/2014 -- Gun violence had been a problematic issue not only in the United States but in other modern countries as well. Most gun-related violence happen in urban areas and are frequently associated with gang violence sometimes involving juvenile and young adult males. However, these days, shooting and different kinds of terror attacks have been happening almost every year even in the most modern countries where technology and security is the topmost priority.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in the US alone 67 per cent of all homicides were done using a firearm. The Federal Bureau of Investigation even claims that there were a lot of fire-arm related suicides in 2012. In Canada, on the other hand, the rate of fire-arm related violent crime fell by more than 25 per cent between 2009 and 2012. These are the statistics in modern countries usually being bombarded by terror attacks and violence.

What happened in the recent shooting spree in Ottawa, Canada had been the latest trending news all across the globe. The safety of the citizens are being questioned since most of these crimes are being done by regular people. Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, the 32-year old Ottawa shooter who died in Wednesday’s shooting in and around the Canadian Parliament, is believed to be a Canadian national of Algerian descent born in 1982. The motivation of the attack is still not clear as most believe that there was political and ideological motives behind the shooting. However, most people who knew Zehaf-Bibeau says that the attack might be caused by personal and psychological issues which have been showing on the suspect’s actions prior to the attack. It is also believed that Zehaf-Bibeau had a very troubled past including robbery and drug use. Based from a statement reported by the Associated Press, “I his mother spoke with him last week over lunch, I had not seen him for over five years before that,” says a woman who claims to be Zehaf-Bibeau’s mother.

Reports also say that Zehaf-Bibeau had converted to Islam. Several years back, he was known to have attended a mosque in Vancouver where he met David Barthurst who is also a convert Islam. According to Barthurst, he even gave Zehaf-Bibeau work at his family’s sprinkler company in 2011 but only worked for 2 days. He claims he had never seen him after that. According to Barthurst, it was the mental illness which caused the shooting tragedy and not Islam.

His familial ties were also indistinct in that he never had very good familial influence as a young boy. As a teenager, he pleaded guilty to two drug related offenses. Some say that maybe Zehaf-Bibeau is metally-challenged reason why the Ottawa shooting happened.

It will take one of the best criminal defense attorneys to prove that the assailant is mentally-challenged at the time the shooting happened. Proper background check, psychological study and an honest defense attorney can look into the details of the shooting to see if it is really a political attack or a psychological enigma.
