Colorado Springs, CO -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/08/2013 -- As you probably know very well, golf is not a game you can play in 10 or 15 minutes. It is a game that usually takes a couple hours or more to complete and can be very tiring. That is why it is important to stay hydrated and have the resources to keep your energy levels up during the entire round. If you don’t, not only will you be exhausted after the round, but you could run into some very serious health considerations as well. Follow a couple of these tips below to keep your performance level high the next time you head out on the course.

First, it is important to never be extremely hungry or thirsty on the course. If you are, that means you didn’t prepare very well with your pre-golf meal. Make sure to have something with carbohydrates, fiber, and protein before you head out to sustain your energy and help your perform your best. Also make sure to have lots of water or a low-sugar (very important!) sports drink available so you stay hydrated throughout the round. You may overlook the importance of hydration especially if it isn’t hot out, but no matter the temperature, hydration is crucial when you are golfing.

No matter what you believe, hunger will always occur on the golf course. If you look at the men and women out on the professional tours these days, they are always having snacks in between holes. Why? They believe that staying full and having quick energy available is important to their success in being competitive and you should too. The easiest way to get some quick energy is through carbohydrates. A lot of Tour professionals have bananas, peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, cereal bars, almonds, granola bar, and other quick snacks that help them sustain their energy throughout the round. When you are out on the course, your blood sugar tends to get a little lower because of all the activity you are performing. When you have a lower blood sugar, you can’t perform properly. That is why having even a granola bar or apple in your bag is important for not only your golf game but for your health.

So, remember, staying hydrated and full during your round is extremely important no matter how you look at it. Eating the right things before and during the round can really affect how you play, and if you need proof, go look on tour. Healthy eating, along with exercise is becoming more and more popular for the professionals because they know the consequences of having a cheeseburger and fries instead of a peanut-butter sandwich on the course. Eat healthy out there; it will be good for your game and good for your life too!
