“news_keywords” will help open the door for journalism not just optimised best searches
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/04/2012 -- Google has made a small change to the algorithm used for SEO functions within the Google search. This time the change is created to make Google news and other functions on the search engine more journalistically friendly, rather than articles that simply optimized to get the best search results. Simply put, the change means that adding a select group of words to your title will not have as much power as it used to for websites trying to pull traffic their way.
Google says that the changes were so that they could “empower news writers to express their stories freely.” The “news_keywords metatag is simply a tool and is not intended to replace “high-quality reporting and interesting news content.” They say those cornerstones are what gets online news segments in front of Google News users. The new metatags will prevent writers from feelings as if they only have a chance if they stuff their pieces with high-powered words, many of which are often included just to boost search ability.
“Similar in spirit to the plain keywords metatag, the news_keywords metatag lets publishers specify a collection of terms that apply to a news article, These words don’t need to appear anywhere within the headline of the body text,” according to Google.
Google also stated, “news keywords such as stocks, stock market, or crash would be helpful in allowing Google News to better understand the article content for ranking without forcing the editors to water down the creativity of a great headline. The metatag appears only as a part of the HTML code of a page, thus visitors to a site won will not see the magic under the hood.”
Google is constantly changing their search systems, even adding new algorithms monthly to keep even the best SEO “expert” from taking advantage and abusing the systems to promote online information.
