Google’s new Voice Search Features Expected to Compete with Apple’s Siri
Tarpon Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/10/2012 -- According to dailymail.co.uk, Google is about to enhance their Voice Search app in competition to Apple’s iPhone inbuilt software, Siri. Google also announced that new features would be added to Google’s existing iOS app on iPhone and iPad “iOS version 4.2 plus”.
The features will be made available within a few days. It is said that the Voice Search on iOS will be capable of finding map information and weather results. It can even find information on individual people and topics.
Amit Singhai, vice-president of Google Search, had this to say on Google’s official blog
“Often the most natural way to ask a question is by asking aloud, so we’ve combined our speech recognition expertise, understanding of language and the knowledge graph so that Voice Search can better interpret your questions and sometimes speak the answers back as full sentences.”
One has to tap on the microphone to ask the question (for example, what movies are playing this weekend?) The Google Voice Search in return will show the list of all the latest movies that are playing in the most nearest located theater. The results will also show schedules and even trailers. One other interesting feature is that whenever Google’s Voice Search gives a direct answer to the questions asked people can also respond in return.
Amit also said
“These are baby steps, but important ones on our way to building the search engine of the future one that is much more intelligent and useful than it was just a few years ago. It’s a very exciting time to be working in this field.”
Although Voice Search has been a part of Google’s iOS app for quite a while, it’s now equal to the Android equivalent (Google Now). That is already a step ahead since it has also been enhanced with some new features a few weeks ago.
