Birmingham, AL -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/29/2017 -- A group of Birmingham, Alabama doctors worked with the nonprofit Peru Mission in Trujillo, Peru to help bring medical care to over 380 patients from June 5th to June 9th. They were able to provide much needed services to many people who did not have access to health care after serious flooding hit a normally arid region in Northeastern Peru.

A group of Birmingham, Alabama doctors worked with the church and nonprofit Peru Mission in Trujillo, Peru to help bring medical care to over 380 patients from June 5th to June 9th.

"Thanks to the faithful service of the doctors, our clinic was teeming with people," said Alleen Tomás, CFO of Peru Mission.

The group provided care for 380 patients and did over 400 consultations at Peru Mission's Betesda Clinic. They also performed some minor surgeries for a nominal fee.

The Doctors who Went to Peru

The group of doctors included Dermatologist Greg Bourgeois, Anesthesiologist Michael Narveson, Orthopedic Surgeon Grady Maddox and General Surgeon Sam Douglas. All 4 doctors are members of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Birmingham.

"Peru Mission was instrumental in bringing relief to many of the neighborhoods that were badly affected by the flooding" said Jimmy Gill, the Associate Pastor at Trinity Presbyterian.

It was the second trip for Greg Bourgeois, but the first for all the other doctors. Dr. Bourgeois is a Dermatologist at both Shelby Dermatology in Alabaster and Aesthetic Dermatology in Birmingham, Alabama.

"I was very encouraged by what they are doing there and I look forward to helping them again in the future," said Dr. Bourgeois.

About Dr. Greg Bourgeois
Dr. Gregory Bourgeois was born and raised in South Louisiana and graduated summa cum laude from Louisiana State University. He obtained his MD from University of Alabama School of Medicine. Dr. Bourgeois is trained in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology with special interest in using lasers to treat a variety of skin conditions. He and his wife have four children.
