Hanoi, Vietnam -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/29/2013 -- A You Tube film has recently been released by Carmen Roberts of the BBC. The film looks at how safety issues have improved since the tragic loss of 12 lives in a boat sinking accident in 2012. The boats valves connecting the cooling pipes to the engine had been left open and as the people slept the hulls was flooded and the boat sank. The incident was a huge shock and a blow to the tourism in general in the area. Some clearly had to be done and it was.
The film shows the strict new safety measures that anyone sailing in Halong Bay will enjoy. Life jackets ion every cabin as well as in the public areas. The dining rooms have a life jacket with every seat. Flashlights and hammers, with which to break cabin windows, are now fitted as standard. All captains have to submit detailed logs and vessels can only leave the quayside at certain times.
All the responsible and professional tour companies have welcomed the new measures and have adopted them gladly. Unscrupulous boat operators have been driven out of business. The whole area has a much more safety conscious feel about it and the film demonstrates this. Safety inspectors make random searches all the time. The actual boat build has improved tremendously. Modern craft are extremely safe and sturdy. They still maintain the charm and style of the old boats, but they are now designed professionally.
The standard of luxury on these new craft is exceptional. The large steel hulled craft are superb. Extensive luxurious cabins offer excellent accommodation for travelers. These spacious boats have large dining areas and private balconies for all passengers. The responsible operators are now dominating the market and the tourism figures are excellent. The UNESCO World Heritage Site ranking has seen huge increases in the traveling public.
Vietnam has a reputation for, if anything, over regulation. This was sadly lacking in the bay, prior to government intervention in 2012. The BBC film demonstrates how this has been rectified and now passengers can enjoy the same safety regulations as cruise passengers anywhere else in the world. The bay is superb and it is only right that it can be enjoyed by more people. However, passengers, especially those with young families, need to know for fact that safety is of paramount importance.
Trust has been rebuilt and this year the tour companies are talking of record figures across the board. Vietnam is having something of a boom at the moment. Tourism is at its highest ever. It is only correct that Halong Bay should be included in these figures. It is an area of outstanding scenic beauty and is a part of Vietnam’s heritage that should be enjoyed by many.
