Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/07/2013 -- The CBGB Music & Film Festival in New York City welcomes Toronto-based rock ‘n’ roll group Hisland to its treasured stages featuring the best in local and national talent, including 700 performers at 175 participating venues. At their festival performance on Saturday, Oct. 12th at Manhattan’s R Bar (9 p.m.), Hisland is excited to share their music with new fans who they hope will join along in singing and dancing to the group’s clean but effervescent take on classic rock ‘n’ roll.
Formed in July 2010, Hisland is comprised of Andrew Silvestro on vocals and guitar, Rob Corrigan on drums and background vocals, Mat Araujo on guitar and Dave Kaduk on bass, keyboard and background vocals.
Hisland don’t overcomplicate their music with too many flashy guitar licks or wild drumming—outside of expressive, well-performed solos—and instead stick to the roots of indie and pure rock ‘n’ roll.
There’s something nostalgic and authentic about their sound with simple yet evocative drum and guitar lines and raw, White Stripes-like vocals, especially in the fun, upbeat track “Balloon Lungs.” Songs like “New Orleans” take it back a notch with a slower tempo and illustrative lyrics: “Well I’m far from New Orleans / I miss the colors, you know what I mean / I miss the songs we sang all night / The way we held each other tight / Well, I’m never too far from you and New Orleans.”
These are just a couple of the phenomenal tunes you’ll catch at their CBGB performance this year, along with the rest of the tracks off their latest five-track EP So Long As They Are Wild (2012), their debut EP Muckshack (2010) and other new tracks they continue to write and perform.
This festival performance will mark a high-note in their festival performance history, which includes such fests as Canadian Music Week in 2011 and 2012, opening for Gilby Clarke of Guns N’ Roses at Spring Music Festival and SXSW in Austin, TX, in 2011.
They also have a growing list of plenty of impressive live performances with other popular artists: Canadian pop group, Faber Drive, Blue Rodeo and Dick Wagner, who was the former guitar player for legendary rock artist, Alice Cooper.
Their music has even been featured in films, including Everyday is Like a Sunday, directed by Pavan Moondi and Blaine Thurier (The New Pornographers) and the upcoming film, Clean Break, by Tricia Lee and Corey Brown.
Off their debut EP Muckshack, “The Devil” garnered much immediate critical acclaim and was even nominated for “Best Rock Song” at the 2010 Hollywood Music in Media Awards. The track also enjoyed radio play through various online streams and reputable radio stations, particularly those in South Africa and Argentina. In addition to this award, vocalist Andrew Silvestro was nominated for “Best Male Vocalist” at the 2011 Los Angeles Music Awards.
This Canadian band is preparing for their next performance in the U.S., where their fan base is growing with each show, album and social media share. During CBGB at R Bar, they’ll share the stage with such artists as Floozie (6 p.m.), InCircles (7 p.m.) and Handsome Distraction (8 p.m.), leading up to the Hisland show at 9 p.m.
Hisland also has a show confirmed on Oct. 11th at You Are Here! with special guest Quiet Company from Austin, TX. You Are Here! is located at 203 W. Main St, Bloomsburg, PA 17815 (410-980-1571).
