The transaction, which was structured as a purchase of the shares of NII's indirect subsidiary, Nextel del Peru S.A. ("Nextel Peru"), was completed as part of NII's previously announced strategy to focus its capital and other resources primarily in Mexico and Brazil, its two largest markets.

RYL’s stock was upgraded by analysts at UBS AG from a “neutral” rating to a “buy” rating in a research report issued to clients and investors on July 31. The company is in advanced talks to buy Sterling Financial Corp., the lender backed by Warburg Pincus LLC and Thomas H. Lee Partners LP, said people with knowledge of the discussions on Sept. 10.
The deal may be valued at about $1.8 billion, said one of the people, who asked not to be named because the process is private. The talks may still collapse and there’s no guarantee a transaction will occur.
