Sprint Nextel Corporation(NYSE:S) has said that the Securities and Exchange Commission has stopped its investigation into the collection and payment of state and local sales taxes by the company.

The SEC had issued a subpoena to Sprint a year ago about its tax collections and payments, after the New York Attorney General had filed a suit.
Sprint has said in its regulatory filing that on July 2, the SEC had informed the company that it was closing its investigation and did not plan to recommend any action.
The suit by New York asks for $100 million in unpaid taxes and triple damages. The New York State Supreme Court refused to dismiss the case last month. Sprint plans to appeal.
The New York AG says that the company has ensured that 25 percent of its monthly access fees for mobile calling plans are not taxed, based on its belief that it doesn't owe taxes on the interstate portion.
Meanwhile, Zynga Inc(NASDAQ:ZNGA) has announced that it plans to withdraw four games created by OMGPOP, the studio that the company acquired for $200 million in 2012.
