Studies point to safer and more well-adjusted lifestyle
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/13/2013 -- Religion plays an important role in many parents lives, and many parents are faced with questions of how raising a child with religion should be done in today's culture. According to a new infographic released by ParentingStylesforNewParents.com, most Americans consider themselves to be persons of faith. The infographic showed figures that illustrate this point in a few dynamic ways.
When polled, 76% of those with faith believed that prayer played an important role in their lives, while 80% never once doubted God's existence. The infographic noted that of those polled, 40% were protestant, with just under 19% defined as Catholic, and 40% being affiliated with another sect.
The infographic noted a study amongst over 2,500 children between the ages of 6-19 noted positive relations between physical/psychological health and religious affiliation and/or church attendance. Over a third of the children stated that religion was important, while 22% attended church. According to the infographic, children who attend regular services are less at risk of suicide attempts, alcohol and drug abuse, and dangerous sexual behaviors.
The graphic also notes a 2012 Live Science study that shows that children of parents who attend regularly demonstrate better self control, overall social skills, and approaches to some forms of learning. The graphic then goes on to note that a 2011 psych assessment noted effect of religion on the brain of children. It noted that those children raised by religious parents are more likely to be better behaved and have a stronger adjustment capability than non-religious children.
In the ParentingStylesforNewParents.com infographic, it states that some of the mots important aspects that are championed in religious households and communities are things like: social support and a sense of community; good values, that are centered around helping others, and sacred significance, which focuses more on being good and happy rather than personal items and affects.
