Diamond Foods, Inc. (NASDAQ:DMND) stock dropped 9.72% to $21.26. The company on Sept. 30 said its fiscal fourth-quarter loss widened on $96.1 million in litigation-settlement-related expenses, a $36 million write-down of Kettle-brand assets and other items, while the the snack-and-nut company's sales were hurt by sharply lower nut sales.
For the period ended July 31, Diamond Foods reported a loss of $147.1 million, or $6.71 a share, compared with a year-earlier loss of $32.9 million, or $1.52 a share. Adjusted earnings were up at nine cents from five cents. Revenue decreased 11% to $199.8 million, in line with the company's expectations for $196 million to $201 million. Analysts recently expected a per-share loss of three cents and revenue of $193 million.
