Adjusted earnings were $2.16 a share, up from $2.05 a year earlier. Anlaysts estimated profit of $2 a share, while Agrium itself had previously guided for $1.50-$1.90 a share. Sales of $3.26 billion were up from $3.18 billion a year earlier, also beating the $3.20 billion analysts were expecting.

Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE:HLF) stock jumped 3.63% to $37.44. The company last week reported fourth quarter earnings of $117.8 million or $1.05 a share from $105.4 million or 86 cents a share in the year-earlier period. Analysts had expected a profit of $1.03 a share. Sales for the quarter rose 20% to $1.1 billion.
Additionally, the company will begin trading ex-dividend on March 01, 2013. A cash dividend payment of $0.3 per share is scheduled to be paid on March 19, 2013. Shareholders who purchased HLF stock prior to the ex-dividend date are eligible for the cash dividend payment. This marks the 5th quarter that HLF has paid the same dividend.

Telefonica S.A. (ADR) (NYSE:TEF) shares jumped 3.62% and closed at $12.88. The company, last month, announced that it disagreed with a fine by the European Union antitrust regulators on its competition agreements with Portugal Telecom SGPS SA and would appeal the decision with the Luxembourg-based European Union Court of Justice. The European Commission said it was fining Telefonica SA EUR 79 million ($104.96 million) and Portugal Telecom SGPS SA EUR 12 million for agreeing not to compete against each other in the Iberian telecoms market.
