Additionally, the company, on Jan. 23, reported fourth quarter net income from continuing operations of $41 million or $0.40 per share, higher than $29 million or $0.39 per share in the prior-year quarter. Adjusted earnings from continuing operations for the quarter were $1.27 per share. Analysts expected the company to report earnings of $1.01 per share for the fourth quarter. Total revenues for the quarter surged to $1.25 billion from $746 million in the same quarter last year, but missed analysts' consensus estimate of $1.26 billion by a whisker.

AngloGold Ashanti Limited (ADR) (NYSE:AU) shares increased 4.18% and closed at $24.43 in the last trading session. The company, on Feb. 20, announced that for fiscal 2013, it expects production to grow to between 4.1 million ounces and 4.4 million ounces at an improved total cash cost of $815/oz to $845/oz. The company is a gold mining company with a portfolio of assets and differing orebody types in key gold producing regions.

MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. (NYSE:WFR) shares jumped 4.17% and closed at $5.24. The company, on Mar. 4, announced that the Company's Board of Directors has appointed Randy H. Zwirn as a new independent member of the Board. Mr. Zwirn, 59, is the Chief Executive Officer, Energy Services Division of Siemens AG (NYSE: SI), Energy Sector. He also serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Energy, Inc. with regional responsibility for the overall Energy Sector in the Americas.
