Leading Doctor Calls for Children to Receive Gastric Bypass Surgery Reports Reflection Medical Spa

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/25/2013 -- A leading doctor has come out with a rather intensive and controversial solution to the growing children's epidemic regarding weight, stating that they should be given gastric bypass surgery.

Dr. David Haslam, who is the head of the National Obesity Forum, has stated that not enough young persons are being offered the surgery, due to NICE commissioning guidelines advise against the procedure.

He state that the treatment, which is reserved for those who are 16 or older, would not be seen as a quick fix due to it having long-term effects on overall health. He noted the proper use of the surgery and lifestyle change can result in decades worth of continued living in individuals that go under the knife.

Dr. Haslam made the remarks in response to the suggestions that fizzy drinks ought to be taxed heavily, while the number of fast food takeaways should be limited in total per area present.

The Academy of Royal Medical Colleges, which represents 220,000 doctors, has made a formal warning that tougher measures are becoming necessary in order to tackle Britains obesity crisis.

Currently, two thirds of adults, along with a third of all children, are too fat. Dr. Haslam has stated that the proposed measures to tackle obesity are simply not enough.

While speaking on Channel 4 News, Haslam stated: “Obesity is a massive problem, it’s a major concern both in adults and in children. In my 25 years as a GP I’ve seen the problem escalate to dramatic proportions and I’m seeing more and more obese and overweight kids.”

He continued: “Radical measures are necessary if we are to start saving lives because for some obese children it is a desperate situation.”

Figures show that the health services are spending £5.1 billion per year in treating illnesses stemming from obesity, such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
