Now Is the Time to Check the Health of Your Fall Outdoor Power Equipment

Don’t wait until the leaves pile up to discover a leaf blower is not working

Warren, OH -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/01/2015 -- According to the outdoor power equipment experts at Do-Cut Sales & Service, now is the perfect time to check the health and safety of fall outdoor power equipment. It's advisable to size up the yard and assess how to dispose of leaves. Can the leaves be blown into the woods or a ravine, or must they be bagged and placed curbside? The answer will help determine the type of equipment needed to handle the task.

Remember, hand held blowers aren't just for leaves; they can be used to blow debris from a deck or patio, to clean gutters, air dry a vehicle after washing, blow out the garage or pick-up truck bed. Any outside area that can be cleaned with a broom is suitable for a hand held blower, plus it can be handled in a fraction of the time.

It can be cumbersome to tackle a large yard with a hand held blowers, so it is advisable to consider a backpack or wheeled blower instead. Backpack blowers range in size and vary in weight but are typically quite comfortable to operate, and they produce a high velocity air stream.

Air volume is a key factor when deciding on a leaf blower. MPH isn't the only thing to look at – check the cubic feet per minute (CFM). Most blowers MPH ratings are similar, between 150 to 200 mph, but wheeled blowers have an almost 50% higher CFM rating than hand held and back pack blowers. 900 CFM is typical for a high end backpack blower, vs 1400 – 2000 CFM for wheeled blowers.

Walk behind blowers produce a wind stream that is in line with the ground and close to the base of the leaf pile. This makes efficient use of the high air volume by reducing the deflection of air off the ground. In contrast, backpack blowers produce a wind stream at high angles since they are held above the ground. Some manufacturers like Little Wonder, offer a feature that splits the air stream into two levels, one to blow the leaves in a straight line and another higher stream to tame the leaves lifted into the air so they remain near the pile.

When choosing blowers, buyers should be aware not all manufacturers will list CFM ratings for wheeled units, since there is no ANSI standard for them as with handhelds and backpacks, and therefore no requirement to do so.

The best brands in the industry for tackling tough debris jobs are Stihl, Husqvarna, Little Wonder and Troy-Bilt. Do-Cut Sales & Services carries them all and they are all in stock now!
