Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/20/2013 -- A bill on e cig that would ban the use of electronic cigarettes on public zones where conventional cigarettes are already prohibited was approved by the City Council's Health Committee by a vote of 9-0. From report, it is found that it's expected to pass the number when the full council votes. From e cigarette reviews, it is clear that the use of e cig is immense among the public in public areas but its opponents seems concerned as a result of which the bill got passed.

The bill’s opponents gave different opinions claiming that the best e cig product's primary purpose is to help smokers quit while on the other hand supporters of the bill opposed such allegations. Following the hearing, a Times op-ed from two Columbia professors voiced support for electronic cigarettes. Councilmember Peter F. Vallone, Jr. said “I tried to give both sides an opportunity to be heard, but every study provided by one side is countered by the other side, which shows the exact opposite thing,"

In addition, Vallone also demoed some sympathy for all the users of electronic cigarette brands at the hearing, noting that some of his staff members used them to quit smoking, but he ultimately voted in favor of the bill. As a result of this, Julie Woessner, the spokeswoman for Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives, warned that the bill could evoke smokers to switch back to conventional cigarettes and said that the banning may work against the interests of public health by frustrating smokers from using smoke-free e cigs.

As per report, the City Council is scheduled to vote for the bill today, and would assemble on e cigs to the Smoke-Free Air Act of 2002. Once the mayor signs it into law, the bill on vapor cigarettes would go into effect after four months with signage requirements kicking in after six months. Commissioner Farley admitted during the hearing that enforcement would be mostly up to the establishment's owners.
