Grand Opening of Mark White Contemporary Art, Mark White's brand new Railyard gallery. The opening features Mark White and new White artists Javier Lopez Barbosa, Alvin Gill-Tapia and Siri Hollander.
Santa Fe, NM -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/24/2012 -- A city of artists, by its very nature, is always changing its colors. Santa Fe's fate was sealed in the early twentieth century, when artists started traveling here to paint New Mexico's gorgeous skies and one-of-a-kind landscapes. They never left—thank goodness—and so the town shifts like a chameleon with the myriad visions of those who dare to create.
In that spirit, local artist and gallery owner Mark White is opening his new gallery, Mark White Contemporary Art, on a side of town that's only recently been splashed with Santa Fe's bottomless paint pail. His new Railyard district space will feature cutting-edge work from artists both familiar and new to the gallery's stable.
Santa Fe artist, Alvin Gill-Tapia certainly knows a lot about painting this town in brilliant colors. His New Mexican ancestry, his natural talent and the skill from prestigious New York art academies all inform his vibrant paintings of Southwestern architecture.
New Mark White artist Siri Hollander creates people and animals by weaving steel rods into complex, graceful armatures and covering them with a special concrete mixture that serves to enhance rather than hide the skeleton beneath. Her sculptures' slender, multi-faceted frames ripple with joyful movement.
Javier Lopez Barbosa, also new to Mark White, grew up in Monterey, Mexico and moved to Santa Fe more than twenty years ago. The town quickly took to his brilliant abstract canvases. The works betray equal parts wild emotion and impeccable technique; behind them is a man with a masterful eye for color mixing.
Part of Mark White's latest body of work will also be on display. The acclaimed sculptor, known for his dynamic wind sculpture, took a trip to Laguna Beach and studied the ocean to create a series of oil paintings on aluminum panels. The works are shimmering studies of the many moods of the vast Pacific, especially that tender time just before dusk. The results are full of glowing color and dynamic movement.
Mark's works are like nothing you've seen from him before, and we're sure you'll say the same about all of the art in Mark White Contemporary Art's Grand Opening show. The show is on September 28th from 5-7 pm at 1611 Paseo de Peralta, across the street from SITE Santa Fe.
