More deficits, intrusive government, columnist argues
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/02/2012 -- According to the Washington Times Communities, the agenda of a possible second term for President Barack Obama is unclear, but if we judge from the first, it could be higher taxes and more government intrusion into Americans’ lives.
The presidential campaign has turned into a horse race, writes Al Maurer, but that should not obscure the importance of this election.
Obama has tried to obscure the differences between the candidates, Maurer says. In the second debate, he assured Americans that he supported the free-market system, even though he had said in the past that the free market does not work.
Obama has a problem running on his record because it consists of a series of policy failures, Maurer states. So a second term would be more of the same: greater deficit spending, extended stimulus and an expansion of intrusive government. Wasteful spending seems to have become a necessity.
At one Air Force base a road was ripped out to make way for pavers. The cost was estimated at $500,000, to comply with EPA directives to control runoff. This is a perfect example of government policy forcing wasteful spending, Maurer observes.
Another term for the Democrat would hasten the implementation of Obamacare, which is certain to require about two dozen new taxes, according to the writer. Higher taxes, even if limited to the wealthy, would affect all Americans. And a new tax on home sales is planned to support Obamacare.
If Obama is re-elected and the balance of power in Congress remains the same, the House and Senate will negate each other and the president will rule by executive decree, Maurer says. Obama already has issued 1,000 executive orders. Not one has been overturned by Congress.
If Americans elect Obama again, he will be able to complete his fundamental transformation of America, Maurer says. We will become a welfare state dependent on bureaucracy and headed toward totalitarian socialism.
