Sources Say Windows 8 Tablet Set to Ship Before End of Holiday Season
Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/13/2012 -- Since its debut in late October, the Microsoft Surface has been sold exclusively in Microsoft’s online and brick-and-mortar stores. Initially, Microsoft planned to wait until early 2013 to begin distributing its new tablet in major retailers. According to WindowsITPro, Microsoft now plans to ship the Surface to retail outlets possibly as early as next week to take advantage of the holiday shopping season.
The Surface is Microsoft’s first contribution to the growing field of touch-screen tablets, and its early reception has been positive. Reviews have focused on its sturdy and reliable build, its robust wireless connectivity, and its physical keyboard, a novel complement to the traditional touch-screen interface.
At $599, the Surface is comparable in price to the other high end tablets currently on the market. It is, therefore, the perfect choice for a group gift this holiday season.
“Tablets, like the Surface, are high on people’s holiday wish lists this year,” said Luke Peterson, CEO of Splitzee.com. “Microsoft was smart to offer wider distribution to capitalize on this right now. Splitzee offers a simple group gift group gift tool where people can easily pool their money online and then have the cash in hand when they walk into their local big box retailer to purchase the Surface.”
