Cheap, easy to maintain, and long-lasting are reasons concrete is growing in popularity
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/02/2012 -- Concrete flooring has found a new foothold as the flooring of choice among many individuals.
Concrete is not just a bland slab of grey, and many homeowners are learning exactly what they can do with the flooring type. The concrete can resemble stonework, woodwork, and brickwork, says Jamie Farny, Portland Cement Association spokesperson based in Skokie, Illnois.
“Concrete also works with many styles, whether a home is more contemporary or has a farmhouse appeal,” Farny says.
Willie Jenkins of Jenkins Concrete in Charlotte, South Carolina says that the recent trend in flooring is due to the appeal to home homeowners that want durable, long-lasting, and maintenance free attractive flooring.
Concrete floors are also a “green” option as they can help stabilize temperature in warm-weather environments, as well has insulate cooler climates.
Most homes are already built on slabs, and only need to be spruced up. All they truly need is a little staining and the homes can begin to look more appealing.
Vachik Gasparyants, owner of Charlotte Concrete Resurfacing, stated that his customers are young and enjoy contemporary looks to stained concrete. The flooring is gaining popularity as a finish among high-end condo dwellers.
Many older clients enjoy the idea of concrete due to how easy it is to maintain once implemented.
Gasparyants stated that his clients usually well-heeled. Concrete acid-stained homes average near $250,000 and more. Stained floors drop off at $800,000 and up. Those homeowners will often go for hardwood or traditional flooring finishes.
Stained concrete is only around $4 per square foot, while tiling and other materials can run as high as $20 per square foot. Concrete also gives a seamless finish to it and is “a modern look,” as Gasparyants puts it. “It is easy to clean and it’s cheap.”
