More Than Skin Deep: Dr. Berk Profiled in Feature Article by Forest Bluff Magazine

In Honor Of Melanoma Awareness Month this article explores how board certified dermatologist Dr. Mark Berk saved a patient’s life - and why it’s important to pay attention to what your body is trying to say.

Chicago, IL -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/17/2018 -- May is Melanoma Awareness Month, The Skin Care Center urges everyone to protect their skin from harmful sun rays. When Lake Bluff resident Amy Richer started losing weight and felt tired all the time, she went to numerous doctors to get an explanation for the way she was feeling. It wasn't until she went to board certified dermatologist Dr. Mark Berk at Chicago's The Skin Care Center that she got the answer she needed.

She had melanoma.

Amy's journey - featured in Forest Bluff Magazine - highlights the importance of being proactive about one's health, even when other doctors indicate that there's nothing wrong. It also demonstrates why dermatologists play a critical role in staying healthy.

"A board certified dermatologist is trained to spot signs that other doctors may miss," Dr. Berk points out. "Other doctors told Amy that she was fine, that she was lucky to lose weight. But when she pointed out a small bump to me on her scalp, I knew right away that her health was in danger."

Amy is on the road toward recovery, and grateful for Dr. Berk's tireless fight to help her feel like herself again. Dr. Berk has words of advice for other folks who may feel frustrated by doctors who keep telling them they're fine, even when they don't feel fine:

"Don't give up," Dr. Berk urges. "Seek out advice from other healthcare professionals. If your PCP can't figure out what's wrong, see a dermatologist or another specialist. You should never stop trying to figure out what your body is trying to tell you, because there is a medical professional out there who has the answers."
