Rental vehicles will have to pay 10% extra fee for the airport customers
San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/11/2012 -- The authorities of Oklahoma City are debating imposing equal rental charges to cars within Will Rogers World Airport. The proposed ordinance will be implemented throughout a 10-miles radius, if it is approved. The proposal has been forwarded to the Oklahoma City Council for approval.
The ordinance will make the playing ground equal for rental car companies that operate in the city away from the airport from those whose offices are at the airport venue. In the absence of such ordinance the rental vehicles have to pay 10% extra fee for airport customers.
Talking to the reporters, city Airport Director Mark Kranenburg, said that the ordinance is proposed to eliminate the difference between off-airport companies and permitted companies.
He further said that “The fee is for access to the rental car customer base that the airport creates. Off-airport companies access this same customer base, but do not pay a concession fee to the (city’s) airport trust.”
City Airports Department Director Mark Kranenburg also said that “this is a parity issue” so it must be solved.
The spokesman also commented that, “We can estimate that there’s about two percent of the entire rental car airport business that the airport trust is not getting the benefits of the concession fee adding that similar agreements are in effect at “numerous airport.”
The city council is also working on a new design of the airport terminal for the rental cars. The city Airport Director was also of the view that changing the ordinance will make sure all car businesses will pay the needed.
