Parents Terms No Frosty the Snowman This Year Due to Cold Weather Reports UK Soft Play

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/01/2013 -- With winter now fully upon those in the northern, hemisphere, the time has come for children to play in the snow, build snowmen, have snowball fights, and ice skate. Yet, some children may not have that chance this winter or any other winter. The reason for this is some over protective parents.

The Chessington World of Adventures Resort has conducted a study conducted that shows 20% of mothers and fathers are concerned their child will catch a cold from playing out in the snow. This is prompting them to forbid their children from going outside and keeping them indoors where it is much warmer.

While one-in-five concerned with illness, 29% fear their child will get injured while playing outside. Many of the activities these parents forbid their children participate in are the same activities that they as kids enjoyed when they were children. The worry is that their child may slip on the ice, or get hit with a snowball that was thrown to hard.

The study showed that with the lack of outdoor activity in the winter twenty percent of children will be spending roughly sixty hours per month in the house. The children will be sitting about the house, watching television or playing video games, rather than getting needed exercise and social interaction with their peers.

Chessington World of Adventures Resort conducted this survey and research before opening its new attraction, ZUFARI: Ride into Africa, which was opened in March.

The General Manager of Chessington, David Smith, stated: "Building snowmen and throwing snowballs are activities children have been doing for years. Getting outside and having fun is all part of growing up so it is a shame many of today's youngsters are not experiencing this fun as parents are scared they may catch a cold or get hurt.”

He continued, “Whether it's in the snow or in warmer temperatures, studies have shown playing outside is good for children's health, is character building, and can also boost their confidence. Our study has shown most parents enjoyed these activities themselves when they were young, so hopefully the thrills of our new ZUFARI: Ride into Africa attraction will help families rediscover their adventurous side together."
