Physical Therapy Is Path to Speedy Post-Surgery Recovery

Kayal Orthopaedic Center urges patients to get up and move

Franklin Lakes, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/23/2018 -- Many patients facing joint replacement surgery in Paramus, NJ, and beyond are anxious about the pain they might experience following their procedures.

But Dr. Robert A. Kayal and his award-winning team of skilled surgeons at Kayal Orthopaedic Center know that one of the best ways to ease pain and speed up recovery is to get up and moving as quickly as possible. They stress with all of their patients the importance of following through with physical therapy routines after orthopaedic surgery, including knee, ankle, hip, shoulder and reverse shoulder replacement procedures.

It's important to build up the muscles around the new joint, which happens more quickly when patients participate in physical therapy. The benefits of PT include: improving circulation and preventing blood clots, increasing strength in the new joint and surrounding muscles, easing pain and swelling and speeding up the return to normal routines and activities.

It's not uncommon for patients to be up and walking with assistance and supervision on the same day as surgery. Soon, they are walking the hallways with the help of a walker or cane. When they check into a rehabilitation center or return home to continue their recovery, they work with a physical therapist to continue to improve their strength and endurance. Every patient is unique, but post-surgical patients are asked to build up their exercise routine to 25 to 30 minutes two or three times a day and their walking regimen to 30 minutes two or three times a day.

The team at Kayal Orthopaedic Center is there for patients every step of the way, including when there is a need for a skilled and experienced pain management specialist in Westwood, Glen Rock, Franklin Lakes, Paramus or beyond.
