Podcation Launches First Audio Drama Pilot: Jupiter Saloon

The Sci-Fi Comedy Podcast Will Debut 10/1 On All Platforms, with Early Access Through Radio Public Starting 9/18

San Diego, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/28/2018 -- Podcation, the podcast creation project that assembled an impressive roster of talent from all over the USA to create a new audio drama, is proud to announce that the resulting podcast — Jupiter Saloon — will be released on 10/1/18, with early access starting on 9/18/18 through the Radio Public app.

A Dive Bar In Space

The sci-fi comedy audio drama takes place at the titular Jupiter Saloon, a dive bar in space. Most of the action is dramatized at the bar itself, but it's important to note that patrons who are short on credits can settle their tab with a good story, which is also dramatized. "We wanted to set up a show that was episodic, but also leave room to play with anthology storytelling," says Podcation co-founder Patrick Yurick. "We now have an episodic backdrop (the bar) with an anthology mechanism (the stories)."

Partners

"RadioPublic has been so supportive as we've worked our way through the phases of this experiment," says Podcation co-founder Chris O'Keeffe. "We're extremely excited to give fans a first-look on RadioPublic's platform."

According to RadioPublic CMO Matt MacDonald, "It's thrilling to see new, innovative and risk-taking approaches to podcast production take shape. We're excited to align ourselves with creators and projects like Podcation and we'll continue supporting podcasters willing to experiment and try new approaches."

Another key partnership was with Brooklyn-based indie music and audio production company, YouTooCanWoo, who supervised the music for Jupiter Saloon. "We're artist owned," says O'Keeffe. "So we wanted to partner with an artist-owned music house to for our supervision. YouTooCanWoo has done some big stuff this year, including the score for Just Cause 4, so we're thrilled they still had time for us."

According to Zach Abramson, the YTCW composer who supervised the project, "We love being a part of the growing podcast space, to tell stories through sound. Whether we're providing music from our library, writing original themes, doing sound design or more, it's about helping podcast creators achieve their goals of comedy, education, suspense, etc. and build the audience's emotional connection to the content."

Sponsors

Additional support was provided by Tito's Handmade Vodka. According to O'Keeffe, "The show takes place at a dive bar in space, so a liquor sponsor makes sense." TIto's VP of Brand Marketing, Nicole Portwood, adds,"The kind of compressed creation that Podcation promises just sounded like too much fun! We hope Tito's can help foster connections between the people on the project, and ultimately lead to something truly new." According to unnamed team members, the Tito's helped the process.

Finally, additional support was provided by The Estate of Dr. Jewel Plummer Cobb, who wish to remind us all to support the arts in all of its forms.

Podcation, a joint project from artists Chris O'Keeffe (Salem, MA) and Patrick Yurick (San Diego, CA), launched its first event this June with the mission to compress a podcast production timeline into a single three-day weekend. The event took at a rented facility in San Diego, CA, and the assembled team wrote, performed, recorded an original audio drama pilot. The pilot takes place in the universe of Jupiter Saloon, From the JS announcement: "It's a bar sitting beneath the stormy atmosphere of the solar system's fifth planet. It is a waypoint in the galaxy where all manner of characters converge to grab a drink, refuel and unwind."
