Ft Lauderdale, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/18/2013 -- From screenwriter and director, Michael Guinzburg the feature length, independent film Hollywood Seagull will be screened to members of the media and press on December 18, 2013. The world premiere is slated for December 27, 2013.  A modern version of Anton Chekhov’s classic, Hollywood Seagull will be previewed for the press at the Downtown Independent Theater, Wednesday, December 18,  at 12:30pm, 251 South Main Street, Los Angeles, California 90012.  Fellow  journalists, actors, writers, poets, bloggers, critics and Chekhov fans and aficionados are all invited.  The film will be screened with Russian subtitles.  A ‘Q & A’ session with lead actress Lara Romanoff and the noted scholar and writer Vladimir Paperny, visiting Professor of Slavic languages at UCLA will follow the film that will include a reception with complimentary beverages, appetizers and 'zakuski'.

The film stars Lara Romanoff as Nina, a Russian actress seeking  love and stardom, who becomes caught in a nest of Hollywood vipers. Oleg Vidov plays her grandfather. The original score by Evgeny Shchukin with songs by Vladimir Vysotsky and American jazzman Doug White is getting early dark-horse buzz for Academy Award consideration. Shot on 35 mm on the bluffs of Malibu, the cinematography by Don Edward FauntLeRoy is lush and breathtaking, a tribute to the great Technicolor Hollywood romances of the fifties. The legendary editor Scott Conrad contributes his best work since he won the Oscar for Rocky. It’s lush, romantic, intellectual, and not for everybody. Or is it? Now more than ever, the world needs wisdom, humor and grace – the world needs Chekhov. Thanks and see you at the movies.

“A visionary rethinking of Anton Chekhov's most explosive work.  Anyone who thinks of the Russian master as polite will have their cages rattled by Lara Romanoff's Nina who shows a Dietrich-esque absorption of light and sexual liberation. There is no doubt that director Guinzburg has caught the unique Checkhovian ambiance of men and women in dachas gone mad with love and lust."
