You're not alone. "We always start the season off the right way with lots of optimism. By Thanksgiving, though, the guilt sets in, and we have to work to put smiles back on our faces," says Diane Paulus, director of the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Mass. "It's so easy to fall back into old habits." For many, that means overeating, starting projects that were abandoned, and throwing tantrums at the slightest provocation. But don't worry: A little seasonal cheer and self-reflection can keep things in perspective and make the holidays a good thing.

In 2013, BSLA spearheaded its First in the Family Humanist Scholarship initiative which focuses on undocumented, foster care, homeless, LGBTQI, system-involved and secular youth who are underrepresented in the college population. The organization was created to provide resources for non-believers of color and combat stereotypes about atheists not being socially responsible. Responding directly to the school-to-prison pipeline crisis in communities of color, BSLA is the first atheist organization to specifically address college pipelining for youth of color. If current prison pipelining trends persist the Education Trust estimates that only "one of every 20 African American kindergartners will graduate from a four-year California university" in the next decade.

For decades, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) has been helping those battling gambling and alcohol disorders, which are sometimes referred to as addictions, in Trenton as well as the rest of New Jersey. Although their efforts have made significant strides in recent years, the organization has noticed an increasing number of disordered gamblers who admit to having suicidal thoughts on a regular basis. While there are many resources available that help those struggling with self-destructive thoughts and behaviors, connecting those people with the resources they need has proven to be a challenge. Therefore, the CCGNJ is encouraging anyone with a friend, family member, or colleague who is exhibiting suicidal behaviors, to contact 800-GAMBLER for help.
