Protect the Roof During Hurricane Season

Florida is notorious for being affected by hurricanes and major storms. Because hurricane season doesn’t come to an until November is over, homeowners may wish to use the downtime to ensure the roof is in the best shape to withstand a storm or damage.

Miami, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/24/2020 -- Whether the roof is new or if it's one that has endured many weather conditions, there are ways to protect it without spending a ton of money. One way is to take a close look at the gutters and clean them out about twice a year at least. Clearing the gutters of leaves reduces odds of clogging which means fewer chances of wall or siding damage.

Doing a bit of tree trimming can do wonders. Aside from cutting down on branches damaging the home and leaves gathering, the removal of branches that may overhang reduces the chances that animals such as possums will enter the home or the roof. These animals are known for chewing on wires and other objects, causing damage internally.

Shingles may come off or they may become loose, especially on older roofs. Using binoculars is one way to safely spot for them instead of climbing onto the roof and putting one's safety at risk.
