This campaign is to help Pop Rascal self publish a Photobook & 2014 Calendar that celebrates everything V-Dub! A look into its history, outrageous conversions & their quirky owners!
Sydney, Australia -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/07/2013 -- In different parts of the world, the Volkswagen Type 2 is affectionately known by a number of nicknames, but whatever it's called, it holds a special space in people’s collective psyche. It has headlights that look like eyes, a badge for a nose, a bumper that presents a wry smile and a tendency to break down at the worse possible time and place (but is thankfully easily repairable).
It represents the dreams and aspirations of an entire generation and embodies the idea of “freedom” in one big lovable bundle of tin, steel, vinyl and rubber. Just load up the van, grab some friends and head down the coast to chase down some waves.
In the US it's known as the "VW bus", or “vee-dub”, a "minibus", a "hippie van", a “combie” or just simply "The Bus”.
In the UK it’s the “Camper”. In Australia & South America the “Kombi”. Affectionately called the "breadloaf” in Portugal and the "Rugbrød - i.e. rye bread " in Denmark and the “Kleinbus” in Chile and Finland. It's the "Volksie Bus" in South Africa.
Sadly, after 64 years of faithful service, the Type 2 Volkswagen bus will cease production this December in its last bastion - Brazil’s Sao Paulo. The German’s and Americans stopped production in 1979 because of tougher road safety regulations and now the Brazilians are to do the same.
This project aims to produce a 96-page journey into the heart and soul of this 20th century cultural icon. As many color photos as Pop Rascal could pack into the back of an old Kombi, together with some history, some weird and wonderful conversions and an "up close and personal" look at some owners. Pop attempts to delve into this secret society of VW aficionados and tries to figure out what makes them tick.
This campaign will only receive funds if at least $2,500 is raised by its deadline. Funding duration: September 29, 2013 - November 08, 2013 (11:59pm PT).
