San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/10/2012 -- According to research, men are twice as likely to buy expensive sunglasses than women. Men mostly prefer famous brand sunglasses and according to the study, 1 out of 10 men spend about 100 to buy brand name sunglasses, so that they look cool in the sun where as compared to men, women don’t spend as much on sunglasses as they kept different variety of sunglasses that match their outfits.
Researcher from Mintel found that the men are almost twice as likely to buy expensive glasses as the study shows that 20% of the men buy expensive brand sunglasses where only 11% of the women prefer to buy expensive brands.
Senior consumer analyst at Mintel, Tamara Sender said, according to money.aol.co.uk,
“Men are more inclined than women to indulge themselves with designer sunglasses, likely because they do not tend to spend as much on other fashion accessories or jewellery.”
Sender also mentioned that the preference of the glasses according to various technical aspects like anti glare lenses which suitable for driving andlight reaction lenses, the percentage of men as compared to women is higher.
The business of glasses over the period of last five years have drop about 24% where as it experienced a slight increase of 3% in 2011. Mintel research also revealed that by adding health benefits and also making people aware of health benefits of using sun glasses will also help in increasing sales as people will prefer to purchase new sun glasses before going on a holiday.
Sender concluded that,
“There is a scope for sunglasses – as with sunscreen – to be pitched as a health essential for everyday life rather than just a holiday must-have, with more information about the damage that the sun can have on people’s eyes in the long term and the impact of wearing sunglasses with inadequate UV protection.”
